This interactive Hebrew prayer activity helps students learn the meaning of the familiar phrase and connect the Hebrew words to their English translations. Through sorting, matching, and discussion, students move beyond simple recitation and develop a clearer understanding of one of the most frequently used phrases in Jewish prayer and blessings.
 
Students work in pairs to reconstruct the Hebrew phrase using word cards, match each Hebrew word to its English translation, and discuss why so many prayers and blessings begin with these words. The activity reinforces prayer vocabulary, strengthens recognition of common Hebrew words, and encourages students to think about the meaning behind what they are saying.
 
To support different teaching approaches and congregational traditions, the resource includes Hebrew word cards, English translation cards, and alternative translation cards where appropriate. An optional timed challenge adds an extra layer of practice as students race to match the Hebrew and English cards as quickly as possible.
